My only gripe with that video is that you don’t get a good feel for how fucking steep that hill is, how tight those turns are, and how crazy those drop offs are. I’m one of the purists who is sad that it’s all paved now, but even paving it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a really fucking steep hill. It’s like they took a normal mountain road, took the steepest part, and then made 20 miles of just that (of which they race on 12). The VW is averaging  90 mph on a course that’s basically all insanely tight switchbacks, with code brown drop offs every so often.

Who was in charge of the exposure and frame rate of that helicopter camera? The highlights are all blown out and it looks like it was filmed at about 3fps which just hurts my brain.

It was such a crazy accomplishment, but this is how they’ve chosen to capture and preserve it? I don’t get it.

It’s hard not to be a huge fan of his. He’s got a face only a mother could love, he’s like five-foot-nothing, and he’s a stereotypically Japanese uber-polite interviewee. But when he drives, he’s a fucking monster.
